Thank you for visiting our website dedicated to helping a special child overcome his disabilities and reach his potential.

Trevor was adopted on June 16, 2000 at birth. He appeared to be a normal, healthy little infant boy. Over time he has met his gross motor developmental milestones on time. Other areas of development, however, were soon discovered by some severe delays in his vision, his ability to attach, and in his hearing. As time went on his behavior got worse and his ability to fall asleep and stay asleep were severely interrupted. He couldn't seem to talk or communicate with us in a way we could understand and he couldn't understand what we were trying to communicate with him. His social relationships were strained, his anger and aggression became severe, and his mood was severely unstable. He would run away constantly and fight anyone who tried to restrain him. After several interventions, treatments and doctors, we have finally learned that Trevor struggles with the following issues:

  1. Atypical Autism, Persuasive Development Disorder, NOS
  2. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, combined type
  3. Intermittent Explosive Disorder (an impulse control disorder in which the individual lacks or fails to use skills for suppressing and controlling frustration and rage)
  4. Phonological Disorder
  5. Oral motor speech apraxia (a neurological deficit between the command centers of the brain and the speech muscles)
  6. Mood Disorder (depression and anxiety)
  7. Sensory Integration Dysfunction
  8. Aggression
  9. Sleep disruption
  10. Undetermined prenatal exposure (either alcohol, drugs or an neurological injury in the womb)

While each of these developmental disabilities are challenging in and of themselves, a combination of these disorders present significant challenges in his behavior and his ability to learn, requiring him to have one-on-one tutors and therapy on a daily for the next couple of years. Trevor now how has 2-3 special tutors who come in our home every day for 3-5 hours and work with him. They do Applied Behavior Analysis, neurological exercises 2-4 times a day, intensive speech therapy, occupational therapy, and sensory integration therapy. (For more information about these kinds of therapies please see "about therapy" on the website). He is also on special biomedical treatments involving a Gluten and Casein free diet and special supplements that support the immune system and brain function.

Without all these kinds of therapies he learns very little, very slow and will never catch up to his peers. Many children with these disorders end up in juvenile detention because of their behavior and sometimes even custody of the state. We are working very hard so that this does not happen. We love him so much and feel that he CAN overcome many of these disabilities with the right kind of therapy. The cost of this kind of therapy is $1500 - $2500 a month. Insurance does not cover any of it. We are, therefore, working hard to fundraise with many things. If you or anyone you know might be in a position to donate in any way to help us fund this kind of therapy, please visit the part on our website entitled "Ways to Donate" Thanks so much for visiting our website.
